WaveFit Case Study
In Q1 of 2022, our Portland video production team produced a series of commercial videos for WaveFit, a company specializing in tackling the health equity disparity in at-home fitness by launching a line of inexpensive yet impressive home-fitness products for those looking to start their fitness journey.
The Project
Home fitness equipment are enormous products in the realm of commercial video advertising. Generally, when shooting a smaller item on a commercial video production, we would rent a film studio like Studio NW, stage the set over a couple of hours, and place the products for each scene. Working with product prototypes as large as treadmills, bikes, rowers, and ellipticals, we didn't have the luxury of running each product up a freight elevator. Our products were essentially stuck in the actual office (you know those places we used to go with the fax machines and disgusting carpet everywhere). This meant if we were going to be making a commercial video with each prototype, we would have to turn the corporate office into the home studio we wanted. For this, we turned to Chancellor Designs, a local real estate staging company, who, throughout the weekend, turned the downtown Vancouver office into a bona fide home-office/living area/bedroom commercial video set. This did 2 things: cut down our production timeline and ensure the prototypes didn't get scuffed in the move.
The Team
Portland, Oregon cinematographers and film production companies benefit from one of the nation's best film and video production communities. Coming from a college town in Corvallis, Oregon, I was extremely nervous about dipping my toes into a more "crowded market." Still, after spending a year or so in the Portland music videographer scene, I met more peers and mentors than I had in my prior years as a professional music videographer. It appeared my fears of a commercial videographer near me price gouging all my commercial video services were invalid, and what actually happened was in a larger pool of clients, in a city known for impressive creative, I worked for the kinds of professionals I always wanted to learn from and would go on to work with today. This directly translated to assembling a team I can trust to offer commercial video production services to companies I could never serve on my own, like OROS and WaveFit. I never would have met the writers, directors, grips, steadicam operators, and commercial video editing staff I bring on my video projects if I'd stayed in the small pond.
