Aesthetic Balcony Seeking Acoustic Roommate
The balcony on my house is a really small, kinda trashy ledge wrapped in Christmas lights that serves as a corral for all of the things I enjoy about my life at the moment. Many of the friends, music, and beers I’ve met since I moved here were introduced to me on my balcony and it’s starting to grow on me.
Staving off bedtime last Wednesday, my roommates and I took a handful of talking points and water bottles out there and Calvin, a man who has a seemingly consistent amount of new cool things to show me, brought a guitar he assured us hadn’t been used in years. In a couple minutes, the people on the streets were turning around, stalling in the sidewalks to see who was responsible for the acoustic setting. I couldn’t imagine a cooler thing at the time than walking a date on the sidewalk below and being serenaded by Calvin from the Northwestern cityscape in the evening air with all of those outdated streetlights. We spent the evening chastising Calvin for holding out on us and watching curious ears twirl to face our rickety balcony.
Preston had the idea. I had a shoot the following Thursday, but on Friday night, we set up the cameras, rigged a mic, and ordered the takeout sushi. The sun went down, we pushed the red button and Calvin took it away. We cheered, we gasped, and we assured Calvin that yes, it was “good”. It was so damn good.
